The Clippers shot a crazy 18 for 29 from the field and got up early on Dallas in the first quarter, where they buried eight of those threes. Following the game, Josh and I got together to talk about the game. After I recap what happened in the game (as I saw it at least), we break down the sloppy offensive first quarter which was really painful considering how well the Clippers shot the ball from three. The crazy offensive performance from Irving allowed the Mavericks to fight all the way back where they took a 105-104 lead with 2 minutes remaining. But lurking behind the offensive theatrics from Irving was an ineffective Dallas defensive performance. James Harden really chewed Dallas up during the game. We try to make some sense of the lack of Dallas defensive adjustment in the final frame and walk through elements of the Dallas gameplan that is and isn’t working. Perhaps next game, Dereck Lively will get more run and Daniel Gafford less. The Mavericks really need Dante Exum to hit a shot to stay on the floor. After getting down 31, it’s painful to lose a game in which Dallas fought all the way back to take a lead. On to the next one, I guess.
