2024 Suns Player Review: Isaiah Thomas returned to the Suns

Image Photo by Jim Poorten/NBAE via Getty Images Not that guy, the other one. Welcome to our Phoenix Suns Season in Review series where we do individual PLAYER REVIEWS of each man who contributed in the 2023-24 season. We go through the roster to analyze what went right/wrong for them, and what they can do to get better for next season. Isaiah Thomas
  • Position: Point Guard/Shooting Guard
  • Vitals: 5’9”, 185 lbs, 35 years old
  • Experience: 16 Years
  • Stats: 6 GP, 1.3 PPG (30.0 FG%, 50.0 3PT%), 0.5 APG
Contract Details IT is an unrestricted free agent. He signed two 10-day contracts with Phoenix before being converted to a full-time contract prior to the start of the 2024 postseason. Career Progression Starting off his NBA Career, Isaiah Thomas was drafted in 2011 second round, picked by the Sacramento Kings with draft number 60 overall. He had a very quick start, with his first double-double on February 19, 2012, posting 23 points and 11 assists in a matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers. On March 1st of 2012, Thomas was named NBA Rookie of the Month, becoming the first ever player to win this honor after being drafted last. Scoring his second Rookie of the Month in April 2012, helping propel him into Rookie of the Year conversations. Thomas's first stint with the Phoenix Suns came in 2014. His debut against the Los Angeles Lakers resulted in a 119-99 win, with Isaiah scoring 23 of those points. Bouncing around from NBA team to team, and also time spent in the G-League, Thomas had comparisons to players like Nate Robinson. He seemed to be on the right path to glory, however injuries would plague his career. Never truly being able to reach his full potential. Regular Season Recap

Having only played in 6 games for the Suns this season, it's hard to see how Isaiah’s game would effect the outcome of this team. He was met with a loud applause upon his return to PHX. A place that has fond memories of his past time in the Purple & Orange. Postseason Recap Isaiah Thomas only appeared in 2 games after the regular season ended. Only getting some minutes when these games had already been lost. Biggest Strength His size and speed, combined with his ball handles, have proven to be a problem for other teams in the past. He is quick and small, not the typical norm in today's game. Biggest Weakness Prone to injury. Numerous body parts failing on him. Wrist, ankle, you name it Thomas probably has hurt it. What to Work On Just staying healthy. If he can maintain his body and injuries, he can be a valuable asset to any team he plays on. A solid backup point guard, that can fit into almost any rotation. Under someone like Coach Mike Budenholzer, anything is possible. Likelihood of Return: 2 Overall Grade D-
  • Overall grade as an NBA player: D+
  • Relative grade to preseason expectations: Nil
Whether or not Isaiah Thomas returns is yet to be seen. If he does, I do not expect it to be in a large capacity. Personally, I have always liked this cat. He plays with passion, heart, and testicular fortitude.
