The Phoenix Suns are continuing to build out their coaching bench as Miek Budenholzer is making additions to fortify the team moving forward. Next to join him? Former University of Washington Coach Mike Hopkins. Hopkins has agreed to a deal to become an assistant coach for the Phoenix Suns, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Pete Thamel report. He spent 22 years under Jim Boeheim at Syracuse before taking the job with the Huskies. Hopkins, 54, went 122-110 at Washington, winning PAC-12 Coach of the Year honors twice. He led the Huskies to a 2019 conference title and an NCAA tournament bid. In his first year as head coach, he coached future first-overall pick Markelle Fultz. Hopkins has experience with NBA players from his time on the USA Basketball coaching staff. He was chosen co-coach of the USA Basketball Select Team in 2012, assisting the squad in preparing for the Olympics in London, where he served as a court coach when the USA won gold.
