2024 NBA Draft: Going two-deep on fits for the Phoenix Suns at all five positions

Image Photo by Stacy Revere/Getty Images Get to know some of the best fits in the NBA Draft for the Suns at each position. For the uninitiated, the 2024 NBA Draft is one that lacks star power at the top, but it has an abundance of readymade prospects with experience who can come in and fill a role right away. That gives the Phoenix Suns ample opportunity to add a cost-controlled contributor without the hassles of hoping negotiations go your way. Consider this an opportunity to feel out some names at each position and see how I view the pecking order within them. POINT GUARD
  • Tyler Kolek, Marquette, 6-foot-1.5 with 6-3 wingspan
  • Bub Carrington, Pittsburgh, 6-foot-3.75 with 6-8 wingspan
Keep an eye on Houston’s Jamal Shead and Colorado’s KJ Simpson as dark horse candidates in the event of a tradedown. Both might be better prospects than the two above if not hampered by their sizes (both measured 6-foot-0.25). SHOOTING GUARD
  • Ja’Kobe Walter, Baylor, 6-foot-4.25 with 6-10 wingspan
  • Terrence Shannon Jr., Illinois, 6-foot-5.75 with 6-8.75 wingspan
This represents by far the least likely direction Phoenix goes by my estimation. While Shannon would be a reach and a potential character risk, Walter would be a good add as a role player now with upside later, but it’s unlikely he will take a tumble that dramatic. SMALL FORWARD
  • Tristan Da Silva, Colorado, 6-foot-8.25 with 6-10.25 wingspan
  • Jaylon Tyson, Cal, 6-foot-5.5 with 6-8 wingspan
Tyson told the media after a workout for the Portland Trail Blazers that he had a workout scheduled with the Suns, and to this point, he’s the only projected first-rounder to have a known workout. Though Jaylon Tyson isn't super quick, he creates space with precise footwork and has a high release point on his jumper. Love how he gets to side-steps and step-backs. pic.twitter.com/9uWzbG7n6h— Will Morris (@w_a_morris) May 31, 2024 POWER FORWARD
  • Bobi Klintman, Cairns Taipans, 6-foot-8.75 with 6-11 wingspan
  • Tyler Smith, 6-foot-9 with 7-1 wingspan
The dark horse position is here because this is likely where the most variance is. Whether or not each of these players develop functional handles will be the decider between them being 7th men on a roster as opposed to 3rd. I have more faith in Klintman’s projection because of his movement abilities on both ends. CENTER
  • DaRon Holmes II, Dayton, 6-foot-8.75 with 7-1 wingspan
  • Yves Missi, Baylor, 6-foot-10.75 with 7-2 wingspan
This is maybe where the most value can be had, due in part to the lack of other avenues to add difference-making bigs. While Holmes represents a more versatile game with a good 3-point projection, Missi is a good rim-running option as well. Purdue’s Zach Edey and Indiana’s Kel’el Ware are two additional names to monitor here. The NBA Draft kicks off on Thursday, June 27. We will see then what the Suns choose to do.
