Zoe Brooks notches triple-double as NC State downs Liberty, 80-67

Image Photo by Lance King/Getty Images No Saniya Rivers, no problem. NC State was without its best player Sunday afternoon, as Saniya Rivers sat this one out with what is hopefully a minor injury. If she has to miss extended time, then that’s obviously a major setback. Didn’t matter too much today, though, despite the Wolfpack’s shooting struggles inside the arc. Liberty to its credit did well to keep the game within arm’s reach, and cut the margin to five with 3:41 to go; but the Flames would score just four more points the rest of the way and the Pack put the game on ice. Zoe Brooks recorded the second triple-double in school history with 14 points, 11 boards, and 10 assists. It was a bit of an odd one, as she was just 2-11 from the field, but shot 10-15 at the free throw line. Image Image State made just 31.9% of its twos in this one, and that’s the kind of struggle that can lead to a surprise defeat, but State was excellent on the boards, shot an impressive 11-26 from three, and got to the free throw line 29 times. The success in those areas carried the team through, even though it left a lot of points at the charity stripe (12 missed FTs). Aziaha James led the Pack with 18 points and was 4-9 from three; Mimi Collins had 15 points and 10 boards; Madison Hayes had 15 and 8; and Laci Steele added 10 points on 4-8 shooting. NC State is off until next Saturday when it travels to South Florida, so Rivers has some extra time to get healthy. Let’s hope it’s all the time she needs.
