Probing The Portal: Penn State Trending For Some Random Ohio State Wide Receiver

Image Photo by Todd Kirkland/Getty Images Maybe you have heard of him. His name is Julian Fleming. JUUUUUUULIAAAAAAN FLEEEEEMMMMMMIIIIIING Heading into this offseason, Penn State was in need of major help at wide receiver. It just so happened that former five-star PA wideout Julian Fleming was entering the portal himself, ending his four-year Ohio State career. Could the two parties rekindle the one-time love affair? Well, it’s looking that way, as multiple recruiting analysts across 247Sports and On3 put in predictions for Fleming to land back at Penn State. Have joined @BrianDohn247 in putting in a Crystal Ball pick for Penn State to land Ohio State wide receiver transfer Julian Fleming.

Fleming is the No. 32 overall player in the @247Sports transfer portal rankings. A bit more here (VIP)https://t.co/gtIP6xjSuh pic.twitter.com/WRqjzoCeb9— Chris Hummer (@chris_hummer) December 15, 2023 I've placed an RPM pick for Penn State to land Ohio State transfer wide receiver Julian Fleming.

He took visits to Penn State and Nebraska. Former five-star recruit who was the top-ranked wide receiver in the nation in the class of 2020.https://t.co/LcL4AXOuyG pic.twitter.com/AD6hXlkPkx— Pete Nakos (@PeteNakos_) December 15, 2023 We’ll (hopefully) talk more about Fleming in the future, but the skinny is this: he did not live up to the five-star billing with the Buckeyes. His best statistical season was 2022 when he finished the year with 34 receptions for 533 yards and 6 touchdowns. This past season — with an Ohio State offense that struggled in its own right — was a pretty big step back for the Southern Columbia product. Down in receptions (26), down in receiving yards (270), and down in touchdowns (0). So those thinking Fleming will be a first-team All-Big Ten type receiver at Penn State will likely be wrong. But could he be a competent starting wide receiver on a good team? Clearly. Plus, from just about every account, he’s an extremely hard-working guy who was willing to sacrifice for the betterment of the team. It seems like the wide receiver room could use a bit of that. TULSA KICKER VISITING PENN STATE Alex Felkins is out the door which means Penn State is in the market for a kicker. One potential options looks to be Tulsa junior kicker Chase Meyer, who was in State College for a visit on Thursday. Penn State Visit @RMtnRecruiting @OneOnOneKicking @CarneyCoaching @RMtnrecruit @Coach_MThompson @_Mike_McCabe @Hunterh24— Chase Meyer (@_ChaseMeyer) December 14, 2023 Meyer had a solid season with the Golden Hurricanes, earning third-team All-AAC honors. He doesn’t have a booming leg right now — his longest kick was from 47 yards — but he proved to be reliable, making 17-of-20 attempts. Just one of those misses came from inside 40 yards, which for college kickers is really all one could ask for. POTENTIAL WIDE RECEIVERS OFF THE BOARD One of the few prospects with a publicized Penn State offer is off board as North Texas’ Ja’Mori Maclin is headed to Kentucky after visiting the Wildcats over the weekend. BREAKING: Former North Texas WR Ja’Mori Maclin has Committed to Kentucky, he tells @on3sports

The 5’11 185 WR had 57 receptions for 1,004 yards and 11 TDs in 2023
