THE TALE It’s not very often that Penn State gets down to Kansas, but the Nittany Lions extended an offer to Woods back in December 2023. The Nittany Lions stayed on Woods through the winter, culminating with a visit for spring practice in March. Penn State made the final four for Woods, receiving an official visit along with Tennessee, Wisconsin, and Purdue. At the end of a busy June visit spree, Woods made the call for the Nittany Lions, joining Cortez Harris and Max Granville as edge prospects in the 2025 recruiting class. OUTLOOK Just a week ago this time, Penn State had zero defensive end recruits committed. Fast forward to today, and Deion Barnes showed that patience truly is a virtue. The Nittany Lions now sit with the aforementioned three defensive end commits, all who carry 247Sports Composite four-star ratings and are ranked in the Top 250. Not too shabby for Coach Barnes. On the field, Woods is use largely as a standup defensive end in high school. But given his size and growth potential, he shouldn’t have too much of a problem playing a more traditional defensive end role once he enrolls at Penn State. To compare him to Granville, he doesn’t have quite the pass rush prowess, but should feature as more of an edge setter who’s strong against the run. It’s not a perfect apple-to-apple comparison, but there’s some Jesse Luketa to his game.
