Image Rob Gray-USA TODAY Sports After debuting at 19 in the AP Poll last week, BYU moved up to 14 in first poll of December released Monday. BYU is 7-0 on the season after a dominating 29-point win over Fresno State in Salt Lake City. BYU’s best wins include San Diego State, Arizona State, and NC State. BYU has the best point differential nationally at +31.7 ppg. BYU has a big upcoming week with a home date versus Evansville Tuesday and a road game at Utah Saturday. Evansville is off to a 7-1 start fueled by an up-tempo and effective offense. BYU should win comfortably if they are on, but a sluggish effort in a potential look ahead spot to the Utes could mean a trap game. Utah, meanwhile, is the biggest game of the young season. The Utes are 32 in KenPom after a 5-2 start that includes losses to Houston and St John’s and wins over Wake Forest and Saint Mary’s. Branden Carlson is one of the best big men in the country and the Utes have been shooting the ball well from deep. The Utes will provide a stiff test for BYU in the Huntsman Center. BYU is up to 8 in KenPom and 2 in the NET rankings that debuted Monday morning. KenPom tends to be more accurate in the early portion of the season since it still factors in preseason projections, while NET is 100% results based for the current season, which is why a team like Princeton at 8 is above Kansas. The NET rankings will stabilize as the season goes along.
