Image IG: 3gorr The 2024 NBA Draft concluded Thursday, and the drought for BYU players continued since Jimmer Fredette was selected 10th overall in the 2011 NBA Draft. That has a good chance to change next season. ESPN’s Jonathan Givony published an early 2025 NBA Mock Draft and two BYU players made the list. Russian freshman Egor Demin is a projected lottery pick to go 9th overall to the San Antonio Spurs and fellow freshman Kanon Catchings is projected to also go in the first round, 26th overall, to the Utah Jazz. The 2025 draft is widely considered much stronger than the 2024 draft. New BYU head coach Kevin Young said at his introductory press conference that he wants BYU to be the best place to prep for the NBA, and getting two one-and-done players selected in the first round would be a massive step for BYU. Young is building a NBA-centric staff with a blend of college, NBA, G-League, and international experience. Demin and Catchings will have high expectations for their freshmen seasons, and if they can play to their ability BYU should be a top-tier team in a loaded Big 12. BYU is also in the mix for NBA caliber talent in the 2025 and 2026 classes, and getting Demin and Catchings drafted in the first round would certainly give merit to Kevin Young’s NBA pitch.
