The Oklahoma Sooners got off to a rough start in their Big 12 semifinal matchup with the Kansas Jayhawks. Despite the double-elimination format of the first two rounds of the tournament, the Sooners faced a win-or-go-home game, even though they hadn’t suffered a loss in Big 12 tournament play. The Jayhawks jumped all over Oklahoma after beating TCU earlier in the day. Kansas got to Brendan Girton early, putting up four runs in the first and two more in the second to take a 6-0 lead. It took a while for the Sooners to hit their stride, but a five-run fifth inning, which was kicked off by a Jaxon Willits two-run home run, gave the Sooners life. Oklahoma tied the game in the sixth inning. All tied up in the bottom of the ninth, Jackson Nicklaus provided the heroics with a two-run, walk-off home run to win the game and put the Sooners into the Big 12 title game. Despite running into trouble at different points in the game, the Sooners bullpen held Kansas scoreless over the final seven innings. Grant Stevens threw 5.1 scoreless innings, striking out six, scattering seven hits and hitting a batter. Carson Atwood, Jett Lodes, and Ryan Lambert each had scoreless appearances to cap off an incredible outing from the Sooners bullpen in an improbable win. Here’s how social media reacted to the Sooners comeback, walk-off win.
