(Photo by Julio Aguilar/Getty Images) In a 33-28 loss to the Detroit Lions last week, the New Orleans Saints were forced to finish the game without starting quarterback Derek Carr, who injured his ribs late in the matchup. Carr’s status for the team’s game on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers has been unknown, and if the Saints quarterback needed to miss a game, the one against the worst team in the NFL would be a good choice. However, it sounds like Carr is going to at least attempt to suit up for New Orleans in the team’s divisional matchup against the Panthers, according to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport on Twitter. Currently, New Orleans has a disappointing 5-7 record, and they are in possession of the No. 11 spot in the NFC playoff picture. Despite their record, however, the Saints are just one game behind the top spot in the NFC South, which is currently held by the Atlanta Falcons. Even if New Orleans finishes the season with a losing record, they can still end up with the No. 4 spot in the NFC playoff bracket if they win their division. So, while Sunday’s game seems like one Carr and the Saints should easily win, they cannot afford to have a slip-up and add an unnecessary loss to their record.
