Valiant in defeat, Geno Smith nominated for Air Player of the Week again

Image Photo by Cooper Neill/Getty Images Smith is the only quarterback from a losing side on this week’s nominee list. For the third time this season, Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith is up for the FedEx Air Player of the Week honor. In a losing effort against the Dallas Cowboys, Smith was 23/41 for 334 yards, 3 touchdowns, 1 rushing touchdown, and 1 interception. It’s the most passing yards the Cowboys defense has allowed all season, and Geno pulled this off despite a pressure rate of 54%. Even Micah Parsons was impressed. I don’t think people realize how insane this is! https://t.co/x3EvHs25Ad— Micah Parsons (@MicahhParsons11) December 1, 2023 Geno previously won Air Player of the Week in Seattle’s 37-31 overtime win over the Detroit Lions in Week 2, and had a nomination for his career-high 369 yards passing and game-winning drive in Week 10 versus the defensively-challenged Washington Commanders. The bad news? The Seahawks let Dak Prescott torch them for 29/41 for 299 yards and 3 touchdowns, so he’s also a nominee. Brock Purdy is the final option, having gone 19/27 for 314 yards and 4 touchdowns in a road demolition of the Philadelphia Eagles. Prescott could be a back-to-back winner, having gotten the nod in Week 12 after his performance against the Commanders. Purdy won the award in Week 11 for his perfect QB rating game versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Geno had the best performance when adjusting for quality of defense—oh, you didn’t know the Eagles defense has been pretty bad?—but he also didn’t get the win. Prescott had the game-winning drive that has tightened the NFC East/No. 1 seed race. Purdy had the biggest win against the team with the best record, but you can decide how much of that was just YAC-aided. This award, which excludes Monday Night Football or else Jake Browning could’ve had a legit shot at winning, is up to a fan vote, so you can click here to stuff the ballot!
