Jets raid the Seahawks practice squad

Image Photo by Jane Gershovich/Getty Images Reserve quarterback Brett Rypien will be moving once again. The Seattle Seahawks are losing a practice squad member to the New York Jets, according to Josina Anderson. Veteran QB Brett Rypien is headed east to joing Gang Green, where he will back up Trevor Siemian and Zach Wilson. This will be his fourth team in the last two years. This was coupled with an announcement that they are moving on from Tim Boyle. I’m told the #Jets are signing QB Brett Rypien off of Seattle’s practice squad and are releasing Tim Boyle, per source.— JosinaAnderson (@JosinaAnderson) December 5, 2023 Zach Wilson is apparently “reluctant” to go back to a starting role, leaving the Jets with limited options at starter. Trevor Siemian is the other QB on the active roster. On paper, Boyle and Rypien have comparable stats, and neither are expected to contribute immediately (or at all), although both have seen some action in relief duty previously. To his credit Rypien has technically gone 2-2 as a started, whereas Tim Boyle is 0-5. Wins aren’t a quarterback stat, but still noteworthy nonetheless. With regard to the Seahawks, this leaves them with a vacancy on the practice squad, and the team has yet to announce any specific moves. According to Bob Condotta, Brett Rypien was active for the San Francisco 49ers game, but he didn’t play or accumulate any stats.
