Bengals at Jaguars: ‘Monday Night Football’ picks and open thread

Monday Night Football is here once again, and this time we will get to see an AFC-contender face off against an AFC-pretender. The Jacksonville Jaguars will be playing host to the Cincinnati Bengals. Now, the 8-3 Jaguars are definitely in contention with a two-game lead in AFC South, and are tied for the second best record in the conference overall. The Bengals, on the other hand, are last in their division at 5-6 and will need some serious help to climb back into anything resembling playoff contention. That isn’t technically impossible, though, and it gives them a lot to be fighting for right now, but Cinci is down to former UW Huskies passer Jake Browning; the organization is coming to terms with the fact that they and very likely staring into the void of a lost season. Accordingly, DraftKings Sportsbook has the home team as heavy favorites, which is unsurprising given the above trivia. The line started out lower, but has since climbed up to 10-points in favor of the Jaguars. Is that realistic? Probably. The Jags have a decent scoring defense, and they should get a chance to shine against the team that has averaged 15-points per game since Browning took over. I expect Jacksonville to score consistently, and even “run-it-up” a bit, but maybe not to an excessively high volume. I simply don’t trust the Bengals as far a Jake Browning can throw an accurate pass. The pick: Under 40 points, Jacksonville wins and covers
