Five targets at center for the Phoenix Suns

Image Photo by Jacob Kupferman/Getty Images The Suns need another center (or two). Here are a few I like this summer as offseason targets. The Phoenix Suns need a center. We’ve all been here before. The good news is there are quite a few options for them to pick from this summer. Let’s dive into some of the best fits and most realistic targets for the squad this offseason. #1) Nick Richards (via trade) Richards, a Kentucky product, is one of my favorite trade targets for the Suns this summer. He makes just $5 million next season and is entering year two of a 3-year, $15 million extension with Charlotte so Phoenix would get him for 2 years at just $10 million total. Image Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images Richards appeared in 67 games for the Hornets last season, starting in 51 contests. He averaged 26.3 minutes per game and paired that with career highs across the board. The big man put up 9.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks on 69.% shooting from the field. While he is fairly limited in what he can do, he does what he does well, and what he does well is what the Suns need. It’s a fit. They can acquire Richards with someone like Cody Martin or Grant Williams in a deal involving Jusuf Nurkic (likely attached to a pick) and possibly another salary to make it work financially. Nassir Little’s contract could also be used if they like the idea of pairing him with Nurkic. Richards would provide the Suns with size, rim protection, and a lob threat. While he wouldn’t provide the fitness and skill that Nurkic brings to the table, he would fill in other needs and give them more flexibility in finding another center to pair with him if they go this route. #2 Andre Drummond (via free agency) Drummond has been linked to the Suns forever, at least by Suns fans as a potential buyout candidate or cheap trade target. He is now set to enter the free agent pool in 2024-25 as an unrestricted free agent, free to sign with any team. Phoenix could be an enticing situation for him to take a pay cut if he’s guaranteed playing time and a chance to compete for a title. He finished the regular season averaging 8.4 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest while shooting 55.6% from the floor in. He averaged 17.1 minutes per game and appeared in 79 games for the Bulls. Image Photo by Chris Coduto/Getty Images Drummond still has plenty left in the tank and could provide be a perfect option to pair with Nurkic or with another center who can ideally play 20+ minutes per game should they deal Nurk. He had a monsterous 26-rebound performance this season and has shown the ability to be a consistent threat on the glass and in the interior throughout his career.

#3) Goga Bitadze (via free agency) Some of you may not be familiar with Goga’s game, but he can play. The Georgian big man was an important depth piece for an Orlando team that battled several frontcourt injuries last season. He proved to be a capable spot starter and rotation big who provides rim protection Bitadze, 24, is set to be a free agent this offseason. He averaged 5.0 points, 4.6 rebounds 1.2 blocks and 1.3 assists per game on 60% shooting. Goga averaged 15.4 minutes per game for the surging Magic squad last season. Image Photo by Chris Coduto/Getty Images Honorable Mentions #4) Mason Plumlee (via free agency) This one won’t make headlines, but Plumlee is someone who could fill a need for the Suns almost immediately. He is ideally a high-end backup center, but can spot start when needed and provide you with 20+ minutes of productive, energetic play at the center position. Image Photo by Harry How/Getty Images #5) Precious Achiuwa (via free agency) Achiuwa would be an upgrade over Eubanks as an athletic, energy big who can finish around the rim and play defense. It would make sense if they decide to keep Nurkic around and pair him up with a more athletic type of big. He averaged 7.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game on 50.1% FG. He is undersized but plays bigger than he is. Which target is your favorite, Suns fans? Let us know below.
